The ice rink at Somerset House has become one of the most recognised images of winter in London. An essential day out for experienced skaters and complete beginners alike, it attracted 116,000 visitors in 2004.
Its 18 th century courtyard makes a spectacular daytime setting, but it’s as darkness falls that it gets even more magical, with flaming torches and architectural lighting illuminating its classical facades.
The rink itself is made up of over 85 tonnes of ice – that’s 2.2 million ice cubes! – kept cold by refridgeration equipment equivalent to more than 700 household freezers. And it’s all supported by a Losberger Cassette floor system.
This winter, skaters and spectators visiting Somerset House will also be watching the action, getting changed and having lunch in a Losberger Multiflex P7 structure.
We’re proud to be back at Somerset House and look forward to opening the ice rink from November.
